Sokratis Famellos: “SYRIZA is not at a critical crossroads”

SYRIZA president spoke again of a joint progressive ballot “against Mitsotakis”

The opinion that “the first issue that concerns Greek society is accuracy” was expressed by the president of SYRIZA-PS, Socrates Famousin an interview with MEGA.

Mr. Famellos spoke of “price derailment” combined with very low wages, citing in yesterday’s Eurostat figures, which show that Greece is in penultimate place in terms of average salary.

The president of SYRIZA accused her government that it pursues a policy that strengthens oligopolies resulting in profits accruing to the middlemen, banks and energy companies. For all this, he said, “there are solutions” and referred to the party’s proposals for the abolition of VAT on food and medicine and the reduction of Excise Duty, which are in the EU’s “toolbox”.

For the necessary increase in the basic salary, he emphasized that it must be determined by a collective labor agreement, which will be the result of negotiations between the social partners, and not by the government.

On the issue of farmers, he again laid the blame for the “perfect storm” on the government, accusing it of “incompetence” in failing to control smallpox, while “the “frappes” and the “butchers” managed to steal a billion euros, the government does not manage to give the subsidies to the farmers”.

Finally, regarding the issues of the Center-Left, Mr. Famellos emphasized that he remains on the same line, i.e. in favor of a common progressive ballot “against Mitsotakis” and a government that characterizes “dangerous and corrupt”. This, he commented, after the resignation of Alexis Tsipras is being discussed “intensely” in the New Left and PASOK, but above all “society is asking for it”.

“SYRIZA-PS is not at a critical crossroads,” he said characteristically, pointing out that according to the unanimous decision of the Central Committee, the goal is to participate and organize discussions and actions together with progressive parties and democratic citizens.
