Five Palestinians were killed on Wednesday, November 12 by gunfire from his soldiers Israel in its southern part Gaza Stripamid the fragile ceasefire in the Palestinian enclave.
The first incident south of the Gaza Strip occurred near Rafah, where Israeli soldiers were attempting to destroy underground tunnels.
According to a spokesman for the Israeli Armed Forces (IDF), soldiers spotted “four terrorists” who had crossed the “Yellow Line”, behind which Israeli forces have retreated as part of the agreed ceasefire. They opened fire on them “in order to eliminate the threat”, it said.
The Jerusalem Post estimates that around 200 Palestinian fighters have holed up in underground tunnels in the Rafah area.
A little further away, in Khan Yunis, soldiers shot and killed another “terrorist” who also crossed the “Yellow Line” and was considered an “imminent threat” to Israeli forces.
There have been other similar incidents in recent weeks. According to health authorities in the Palestinian enclave, more than 245 people have been killed by Israeli attacks since the ceasefire took effect on October 10.
The IDF has made it clear that its forces will take drastic measures to eliminate any threat to their security.
The war in the Gaza Strip erupted after the unprecedented attack launched by Hamas on October 7, 2023 in southern Israel, in which 1,218 people were killed and 251 kidnapped, according to Israeli authorities.
Since then, more than 69,000 people have been killed as a result of Israeli military operations in the Palestinian enclave, according to the Hamas-controlled Gaza health ministry.
