The Minister of Environment and Energy, Stavros Papastavrouthe Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry of the Republic of Cyprus, Giorgos Papanastasiou and the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Nikos Tsafos, met today in Brussels with the European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jorgensen.
“We met today with my Cypriot counterpart and Deputy Minister Mr. Tsafos, with the European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Mr. Jorgensen. We informed him about the important agreements that were decided last week in Athens with the American ministers, agreements that lead to Europe’s independence from Russian natural gas, the shift to American gas with Greece as the main gateway” underlined Mr. Papastavrou.
In addition, he pointed out the need to update the economic and technical elements of the Greece-Cyprus electricity interconnection.

“We met today with my Cypriot counterpart and Deputy Minister Mr. Tsafos, with the European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Mr. Jorgensen. We informed him about the important agreements that were decided last week in Athens with the American Ministers, agreements that lead to Europe’s independence from Russian natural gas, the shift to American gas with Greece as the main gateway. We also discussed the results of the 3 + 1 initiative we had with the Cypriot minister, with the energy ministers of America and Israel. We underlined the need to update the economic and technical data of the electrical interconnection between Cyprus and Greece, as stated a few hours ago by the Greek Prime Minister and the Cypriot President, in view of the potential investment interest. Finally, we highlighted the need for Europe to move quickly, to strengthen connectivity projects, to further de-escalate the price of energy for households and businesses.”
