Politico: A Greek MEP is being investigated for forging signatures on an important party document

A criminal investigation has been launched against the far-right Greek MEP and leader of the Afroditis party Latinopoulouregarding allegations that her party’s founding declaration includes forged signatures. The Politico refers to the statement of the Minister of Justice of Greece, Giorgos Floridis, who stated on Tuesday, during his speech in Parliament, that the case file against the head of the Voice of Reason party was filed in January 2025 and is currently being processed by the prosecutor.

According to Floridis, the investigation aims to verify the authenticity of the signatures included in the founding declaration of the party. Copies of the document, including those believed to be fakes, have been forwarded by the Supreme Court to the Ministry of the Interior, which is responsible for elections and political parties.
According to Greek law, political parties must collect at least 200 signatures from citizens with the right to vote in order to participate in the elections. It is alleged that some of these signatures were forged.

“These are absurdities arising from the fear of the rise of our political party and are the product of attacks by a political opponent, known for his vulgarity in Greece,” said a party representative. Latinopoulou was deleted from New Democracy in 2022, after her comments that were considered body-shaming against a TV presenter. She then condemned the decision, attributing it to “woke culture”.

In 2023 he founded the Voice of Reason party and in 2024 he was elected MEP, as a member of the “Patriots for Europe” political group. Her party, as reported by Politico, is described as a modern patriotic movement dedicated to preserving the Greek identity and traditional values, with the slogan “Homeland, Religion, Family”. Latinopoulou aligns herself with the policies of other women on the European far-right, such as Marine Le Pen in France and Giorgia Meloni in Italy. Her political platform includes anti-immigration and anti-abortion positions, as well as a proposal to ban members of the LGBTQ+ community from participating in the education system, the Politico report concludes.
