New cameras and severe fines on bus lanes – From the summer of 2026 over 1,000 devices will “cut” calls automatically

Car drivers who violate the Road Traffic Code by the dozen are not deterred even by the yellow linesnor from the warning signsnor from the presence buses and trolleys which normally pass through the bus lanes.

To put an end to the phenomenon, the Ministry of Transport and the local authorities are mobilizing technology, cameras and tougher finesaiming to ensure that bus lanes are used exclusively by public transport, thus improving speed, reliability and consistency of routes.\

The cameras are “recording” and the first calls have arrived

At Mesogeion Avenue a control camera has already been installed, while as announced, from summer 2026 will be added at least 1,000 more cameras throughout Attica and in major cities of the country.

The first electronic calls have already been sent to citizen mailboxes at gov.grmarking the beginning of a new, fully digital infringement control system.

“Right now there are citizens who have received electronic calls from a camera in their inbox on gov.gr. Some cameras are working, but gradually you will see the network expand. Each municipality and each district can install its own cameras and earn revenue from violations,” said Deputy Minister of Transport Kostas Kyranakis at ERTnews.

Fine increase and new “smart” cameras on buses

The data changes for those who still ignore the KOK:
the fine for a bus lane violation rises from 100 to 150 euroswhile the cameras that record the violations they are automatically connected to the electronic platforms of the Government.

The next period is expected to install 600 cameras on the buses themselveswhich will record offenders in real time. In this way, the authorities will have the possibility immediate identification and imposition of a fine without the intervention of a traffic officer.
