The president of the Republic of Cyprus will be in Athens tomorrow, Wednesday, November 12, Nikos Christodoulidisfor a meeting with the prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The meeting will take place at 11:00 at Megaros Maximos, as part of 3rd Greece-Cyprus Intergovernmental Summit.
After the Plenary of the Synod, the two leaders are expected to make joint statements to the press.
The broad agenda
This institution, which officially started in 2023, aims to expand the already close cooperation between Athens and Nicosia in many new areas, beyond foreign policy where coordination is considered a given and permanent.
According to government sources, the relevant ministers of the two countries will discuss coordinated actions and exchange of know-how in critical areas such as:
- Environment and Civil Protection
- Health and Education
- Digital Policy and Transportation
- Housing Policy and Justice
- Culture
The “hot” agenda
In addition to the above, critical geopolitical issues will be at the center of the Mitsotakis-Christodoulidis meeting.
The top priority is of course the Cypriotespecially after the recent developments and his election Tufan Erhiurman in the leadership of the Turkish Cypriot community, which creates new data.
In addition, they will discuss:
- The energy ones issues, in the light of the latest developments in the region.
- The preparation for taking over EU Council Presidency from the Republic of Cyprus in the first half of 2026.
According to the same sources, the prime minister is expected to inform the Cypriot president about his contacts with American officials and the new agreements which, according to Athens, upgrade the geopolitical and energy role of Greece in the wider region, reaching as far as Ukraine.
