“Cooperation and interconnection can bring stability, security and development to both countries”
“The connection, cooperation and promotion of investment and development agreements in shipping and port infrastructure will help the stability of the region, provide security and bring prosperity to our countries”, emphasized the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Vassilis Kikilias at the “TransMEA 2025” conference in Cairo.
As he pointed out “the strengthening of cooperation between Greece and Egypt in these areas it is not only a question of diplomacy, but a real necessity for the development of the Mediterranean”.
The minister mentioned that “Greece has the strongest fleet in the world, it has a long-standing relationship with Egypt and therefore, the two countries are moving forward together, dynamically in investments and in the upgrading of ports, infrastructure and facilities”.
Continuing, he underlined the importance of investment agreements and partnerships in the field of maritime transport, ports, infrastructure and energy, while regarding the Greece-Egypt energy interconnection he noted:In the coming years, a major investment will take place between Egypt and Greece, the electric cable from Egypt to Greece and then electricity will be supplied to the rest of the European Union”.
In closing, he highlighted the importance of partnerships: “I hope we can all work together, through trade, investment and energy agreements, that will help the two peoples to progress and improve their standard of living. Cooperation and interconnection can bring stability, security and development to both countries.”
