ELTA “cohabitation” scenarios in KEP

Changes to the network restructuring plan of ELTA (with possible cohabitation in KEP) may arise after the start of the consultation cycle launched by the new administration with local bodies and societies, in the areas included in the list of shops whose closure was announced two weeks ago, according to a publication of “Kathimerini”.

On the table has also been put the proposal of utilizing the premises of the KEP, in which ELTA services could be housed with the “shop in shop” model. However, the possibility of the postal services moving entirely to the KEPs is considered difficult, as the KEPs do not have the required infrastructure to provide financial services, a function of vital importance to serve the citizens, especially in the Region.

In this context, the possibility remains open that some of the 158 stores in the Region will continue their operation even after the expiration of the three-month extension given to them, following the strong reactions that preceded it. It is possible that some of the 158 stores in the Region will continue to operate even after the three-month extension.

Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis had recently pointed out that “first all available alternatives should be communicated and secondly additional solutions should be explored”. From the first moment the locks were announced, there were municipalities that offered to cover operating costs, such as monthly rent and electricity bills, in order to avoid permanent closure.
