Veria: 21-year-old man freed for injuring 45-year-old bandit at Aliakmonas dam

The 21-year-old man who confronted a 45-year-old man who tried to rob him on Thursday night (6.11.25) at the Aliakmonas dam in Veria.

The 45-year-old man, who is under guard at the Veria hospital, is being prosecuted for robbery and illegal carrying of weapons, and the 21-year-old man who was arrested, apologized today.

According to what has been made known by the police, the 45-year-old initially parked his car near the vehicle where the 21-year-old and a 20-year-old woman were. Holding the carbine, he shot at the car of the young couple without injuring them and then grabbed their mobile phones and 8 euros.

The young man then got out of his car and managed to disarm the robber. A struggle ensued between the two men during which the 45-year-old was shot and wounded in the chest. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital where he underwent surgery, while it seems that his life is not in danger.

The 21-year-old allegedly testified that the gunman asked him to get into his car so they could withdraw money from an ATM.

The moment the young man entered the 45-year-old’s car, he managed to wrest the carbine from him. According to the young man, a fight ensued during which the gun went off, while, according to him, he rushed to help the man, treating his wound until he was picked up by EKAB rescuers who were alerted by the 20-year-old.
