Chrysochoidis: In June, the installation of 1,000 cameras on the streets, a bill is coming for police bodycams

The Minister of Citizen Protection spoke about the government’s plans to install cameras on the streets that will record traffic violations. Michalis Chrysochoidis.

“We are obliged to follow a procedure for tenders with placement cameras on the streets”, said Mr. Chrysochoidis in an interview with SKAI 100.3, clarifying that the installation of the first 1,000 cameras expected to start in June next year. As he mentioned, their operation will be under the responsibility of the Ministry of Infrastructure, while through them EL.AS will also be able. to impose electronic fines for violations thereof Road Traffic Code.

Referring to the cameras of the Attica Region, he pointed out that there was a delay in their installation due to “some problems that I do not know exactly”. At the same time, he revealed that within the next few days the Ministry of Citizen Protection will submit a bill for the body cameras to be worn by police officers.

Regarding possible delays from Personal Data Protection Authoritythe minister noted:
“There is the European legislation. Not everyone does what they want. The pace of many authorities and many services is too slow and sometimes I react because there is an overall laxity to things which is infuriating. It is important to see how the State can work faster and more efficiently.”
