The progress of Cyprus-Israel relations was discussed by Cypriot foreign minister Konstantinos Kombos and the Israeli counterpart of Gideon Saar, in the context of a one-day working visit of Mr. Kobos to Israel. The discussion covered its areas energydefense and investments, with the Cypriot side underlining the strategic nature of the relationship.
The visit included a one-on-one Kobu-Saar meeting and then a working lunch with the participation of the delegations. The two ministers exchanged views on regional developments and the prospects for deepening cooperation in areas of common interest.
The “day after” in Gaza and humanitarian aid flows were also in focus, with an emphasis on the mediating role of the Republic of Cyprus as a bridge of cooperation. Mr. Kombos was briefed at CENTCOM’s Civil-Military Coordination Center (CMCC) in Kiryat Gat on humanitarian aid support actions, under US President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan and in conjunction with the Cyprus six-point proposal.
The two sides reaffirmed the priority they attach to energy synergies and security arrangements in the Eastern Mediterranean, as well as expanding mutual investment flows. Nicosia speaks of a steady upward trend in economic ties.
The course of the 3+1 scheme with the participation of the USA was also discussed, as well as the prospects opened by the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor (IMEC) for connectivity and supply chains, with Cyprus seeking an active role due to location and infrastructure.
