Negative may be n economic development of USA in the fourth quarter of 2025 if the federal government’s default is extended, White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett estimated today (11/9/25) in an interview broadcast by the CBS television network.
On “Face the Nation,” Hassett noted that the lack of air traffic controllers is causing major travel delays ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, which he said could hit that important period for consumption. If the problem is prolonged, the economic growth of the USA will move to negative levels, with the effects being felt.
“Thanksgiving is one of the hottest times of the year for the economy, and if people don’t travel during that time, we may actually see negative growth in the fourth quarter,” he said.
According to Reuters, uncertainty surrounding the payment freeze and curbing consumption could weigh on the economy, dampening year-end growth momentum. Hassett stressed that the government must find a solution soon, “to avoid a hit to the economy just before the festive season.”
