Russia: More than 20,000 residents without electricity due to Ukrainian drone attacks – In “darkness” and Kharkiv

Serious problems in the electricity network are facing two regions in Russiaafter Ukrainian strikes drones in energy infrastructures, as announced today (09.11.2025) by the local authorities.

Kursk and Belgorod regions, located in western Russia, experienced widespread power outages, while Kharkiv region in northeastern Ukraine is facing similar problems due to Russian drone attacks on local energy facilities.

In the Belgorod region, which is often targeted by Ukrainian fire, its governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said in a Telegram post that “the electricity and heating network was severely damaged» in the homonymous capital of the region.

«Several roads are affected by power supply problems (…) More than 20,000 residents have no electricity“, he added.

In the Kursk region, also on the border with Ukraine, “a fire broke out in one of the energy facilities of Korenevo village“, leaving 10 communities without power, also announced in a post on Telegram the governor of Alexander Hinstein.

Also in the Voronezh region of southwestern Russia, a Ukrainian drone attack during the night caused temporary problems with electricity and heating in the cityaccording to the governor of the region of the same name, Alexander Gusev, who clarified that a fire broke out in an installation of the heating supply network.

The attack in Voronezh caused no injuries, he added in a Telegram post, explaining that the interception of some drones by electronic warfare systems caused a fire at a utility facility that was quickly extinguished.

The safety measures taken led to brief temperature changes in the central heating system in some houses and minor power outages in parts of the city, but the supply has since normalized, Gusev concluded.

Meanwhile, the local authorities of the city of Taganrog in southern Russia stated that various areas of the municipality they were left without electricity due to an emergency high-voltage line outage. Local authorities did not say what caused the outage.

Kiev has stepped up its drone and missile attacks inside Russia, hitting oil refineries, warehouses and supply hubs that it says feed the Kremlin’s war machine.

Moscow characterizes these attacks as terrorist, while Kiev states that they are carried out in legitimate self-defense in the war launched by Russia against Ukraine in February 2022.

Yesterday Saturday (08.11.2025), Russia unleashed massive strikes on Ukraine’s electricity, natural gas and railway networks.

This attack caused power outages and significant damage to Ukrainian power plants and cost the lives of 7 peopleaccording to Ukrainian officials.
