OR Hydra welcomed the American ambassador in Greece, Kimberly Guilfoylein a ceremony held on Saturday at the historic town hall of the island.
During the visit, the mayor of Hydra awarded Mrs. Guilfoyle the medal of the Municipality, honoring the memory of the two American Philhellenes, William Washington and George Jarvis, who contributed significantly to the Revolutionary Action of Hydra during the War of Independence, as reported by George Koukoudakis.
According to the mayor’s Facebook post, “what was highlighted during the meeting are the particularly close historical and cultural ties between the US and Hydra.”
The ambassador expressed her enthusiasm for the uniqueness of the island and stated that she intends to visit it again soon.
