Luckily there were no injuries after a terrible fall incident balcony at Chaniawhich took place on Saturday night (08.11.2025).
With a deafening noise, the large balcony that was on the top floor of an unfinished building on Kydonias street collapsed with the concrete debris scattered over a large area in the city of Chania.
The incident happened at the intersection of Kydonias and Koronaios streets opposite the KTEL intercity bus station and in fact at a time when there is a lot of vehicular and pedestrian traffic, according to flashnews.gr.
By incredible luck the debris did not hit any pedestrians or passing vehicles, but caused damage to parked machines, a parked vehicle and a shop located on the ground floor.
As can be seen from the photos, the balcony of the top floor initially collapsed and when it fell, the concrete below was carried away.
The police and fire brigade rushed to the scene, while the Municipality of Chania was also notified to clean the road surface, but also to control the risk of another collapse.
It should be noted that the specific building at the intersection of Kydonias and Koronaios streets has been in an unfinished state for many years and it is estimated that the recent heavy rains burdened the condition of the aged building.
