According to this year’s inflation rate (2.6%), the insurance contributions of the self-employed (freelancersself-employed and farmers) from January 1, 2026, according to the prevailing scenario which is on the table of the Ministry of Labour.
This is reported by authoritative information from newsit.gr, explaining that during the formation of a reliable new wage index, based on which the contributions of the self-employed etc. should be recalculated from 2026 by a competent working group, based on which the Vroutsi insurance law (2020) provides, intrinsic difficulties appeared.
Therefore, to the Ministry of Labour has gained ground, as it seems decisively, for the scenario to be calculated again this year based on inflation. This development, according to what social security analysts report on newsit.gr, is judged to be rather positive for the unemployed, as the increases that have been given to wages in 2025 would probably lead to a wage index that would bring greater increases in contributions than those that will come with this year’s inflation, which would “gnaw away” at the benefits of the reduction in direct taxation provided for in the bill that came to public consultation yesterday.
It is noted that the Vroutsis law provides for the calculation of the increase in the contributions of professionals and farmers according to the percentage of the change in the wage index from January 1, 2025, which was not done.
It is recalled that from 2023-2024 the Vroutsis law provided for an increase in contributions by the percentage of inflation, while in the period 2020-2022 they had remained frozen, while from 2020 the system of calculating contributions as a percentage of the reportable income (Katrougalos law) was replaced by a system of insurance categories.
