In conditions extreme intensity the debate was brought to the Plenary of the Parliament, with the Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadisto launch a scathing personal attack against the President of Freedom of Navigation, Zois Konstantopoulou.
The conflict was ignited when Z. Konstantopoulou denounced “unholy alliances” (Gerovasilis-Bakoyiannis) for the “timer” in the speeches and accused Mr. Georgiadis of giving a “line” to the ND for its immunity vote, calling him, among other things, “former LAOS”, “Holocaust denier” and “goebbels fan”.
Mr. Georgiadis, taking the floor visibly irritated, stated that the next time the term “Goebbels fan” was uttered, he would submit to her complaint for defamation.
He then proceeded to make unprecedented characterizations, saying: “This is the worst thing that has ever passed through this room! […] They had hated her so much that they saw her, her meanest womanthe most awful woman that has ever passed the Greek parliament!”.
The minister accused Mrs. Konstantopoulou that “literally Parliament is in a hurry» speaking for 90 minutes instead of 10, and how he does “bowling” to everyone. He even claimed that when she lost the Presidency of the House in 2015, the employees “danced to music for their joy” that they were spared from the “worst tyrant”.
Attack for Tempis and Bakoyannis
Mr Georgiadis raised the tone further, accusing Ms Konstantopoulou of being the only political leader who “he has cursed the dead of Tempe”. He specifically referred to dead train driverssaying she was “not ashamed” to call him a “smuggler” without ever apologizing to his parents.
He also defended her Dora Bakoyannis about the case of the traffic accident outside the Parliament, saying that her involvement was zero and that Mrs. Konstantopoulou mentions the tragic event only to get out her “toxic poison” and “hysteria” her.
Intervention of PASOK, SYRIZA and refusal to withdraw
The diversion provoked the reaction of PASOK, with Pavlos Christidis to apologize to the students in the lecture halls and ask for the grades to be taken back. On the same wavelength, Christos Giannoulis from SYRIZA commented that such expressions “hurt parliamentarism”.
The chairperson, Olga Gerovasiliinvited the minister to recall and announced that the designations would are deleted from the minutes.
However, Mr. Georgiadis refused to retractstating that he does not wish to delete anything and that “democracy is not immune to thuggery” and the “vulgarity” of Mrs. Konstantopoulou. Freedom Sailing, through its representative, also stated that it does not wish to delete anything, characterizing the minister’s speech as “fascist and sexist”.
