The German ones exports are facing stagnation, according to its latest figures ifoof the German Institute for Economic Research.
Specifically, ifo’s export expectations fell to +2.8 points in October, from +3.4 points in September. “The German export industry is stuck in a rut. There is no real recovery on the horizon,” says Klaus Wohlrabe, head of research at ifo.
The pressure is particularly intense in the metallurgical industry, while the chemical and paper industries also expect a decrease in exports. Despite a slightly better picture in engineering and the food industry, real export growth has yet to materialize.
In contrast, the auto industry remains very bullish on international business, with expectations for exports rising once again. Electrical equipment manufacturers also expect to increase their exports. The drinks industry also expects increasing exports, although to a somewhat lesser extent than recently.
