The two suspects in the robbery at Louvre Museumaged around 30, were taken into custody on Saturday night (25.10.2025) by the Crime Suppression Unit of the Judicial Police of Paris.
They deny any involvement in the robbery of the Louvre Museum in Paris – or rather… they say nothing. The two men chose to exercise the “right to remain silent”, a common tactic in organized crime cases, writes French newspaper Le Parisien.
The first, a 39-year-old French-Algerian, was identified thanks to hair found inside a motorcycle helmet that the perpetrators abandoned after the robbery. The second, a Frenchman of Malian origin, was identified thanks to traces of DNA found in the fibers of a yellow vest he wore during the operation and then threw into the street. Genetic analyzes allowed their rapid identification, as their profiles were already present in the French national DNA database.
Arrest at Paris airport
According to Le Parisien, the police accelerated the process of arrests when they learned that one of the two men was preparing to board a flight to Algeria. The suspects were arrested shortly before departure at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport. They are considered the main executors of the robbery, those who entered directly into the Gallery of Apollo, where the Crown Jewels were displayed.
Eight jewels of priceless value were stolen on October 19, in just seven minutes. Despite extensive searches and house raids, the police have found no trace of the stolen items. Two more accomplices, who allegedly waited for the robbers with motorbikes outside the museum, remain at large.
Authorities fear that the precious gems have already been dismantled and sold abroad through specialized circuits. “Some diamonds may be sold separately, which would make it almost impossible to reunite the jewels,” a source familiar with the investigation told Le Parisien.
An extensive and complex investigation is underway to identify the masterminds of this robbery, which is already considered one of the most audacious in the history of the Louvre.
