For the past two weeks there has been a “fragile truce” between Islamic Jihad ally Hamas and Israel in Gaza – although the latter reserves the right to defend itself and its forces from militant attacks.
According to the Israeli armed forces, the target of the attack was a person who was also planning an attack against Israeli soldiers.
“A short time ago, the Israeli army carried out a precision strike in the Nuseirat area of the central Gaza Strip, targeting an Islamic Jihad terrorist who intended to carry out an imminent terrorist attack against Israeli army soldiers,” the statement said.
“Israel Defense Forces (IDF) troops in the Southern Command have been deployed to the area in accordance with the ceasefire agreement and will continue to operate to eliminate any immediate threat,” the IDF statement continued.

A “fragile” ceasefire has been put in place between Israel and the Hamas group in Gaza, although both sides accuse each other of violations.
Inside Hamas-controlled territory, Al-Awda Hospital confirmed it was receiving wounded for treatment following an attack in Nuseirat.
“The hospital received four wounded after Israeli forces attacked a civilian car in the Al-Ahli Club area in the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza,” the hospital said.
The army said it would continue operations in Gaza “to remove any immediate threat” to its forces.
Islamic Jihad has not yet commented on this announcement.
A car was hit by the shelling, injuring four people, according to Al-Awda Hospital. “The hospital received four wounded after the occupying Israeli army targeted a civilian car in the area of Club Al Ahli, in the Nuseirat camp,” it said.
Eyewitnesses told Reuters they saw a drone strike the car, which burst into flames. Other witnesses also said that Israeli tanks shelled the eastern suburbs of Gaza City. The Israeli military did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the strike.
