Lithuania: Vilnius and Kaunas airports closed due to weather balloons from Belarus

Its National Crisis Management Center Lithuania announced its closure airport of the capital Vilnius, after the entry of “balloons” into its airspace from Belarus.

It was the fourth flight disruption this month, after Lithuania’s Vilnius airport was closed due to weather balloons that invaded its airspace from neighboring Belarus in the previous days, according to the National Crisis Management Center (NCMC).

Traffic at the airport was suspended until 2 am. , according to the NCMC.

The capital’s airport was temporarily closed on Tuesday and on October 5 when balloons containing contraband cigarettes were brought in from Belarus.

Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene announced the closure of two border crossings with Belarus until noon on Sunday, as she had warned on Wednesday in case of a repeat of the same incident.

Several European airports have been disrupted in recent weeks, mainly by drones of unknown origin, including Copenhagen Airport in Denmark.
