At the start of their meeting, they had the following dialogue (in informal translation from English):
Kyriakos Mitsotakis: Mr. Vice -President, I’m so glad to welcome you. We have a lot of issues to discuss. You have a wide range of responsibilities. I believe it is also an opportunity to inform you about the progress made by the Greek economy and the good use of European funds on our part.
Of course, as far as your portfolio issues are concerned, I think we have also made great progress and I am very interested in learning your views, in the light of the important initiatives currently planned by the European Commission. Happy birthday again and welcome.
Cezurne Stephen: Thank you very much. Thank you for the reception. The European Commission has tangible results in a short period of time, in the first 100 days, so it is an ideal time to have this discussion. We have presented the net industrial agreement, the competitiveness compass and, recently, two sectoral designs for steel and aluminum and the other for the automotive industry. I see that it is a very important issue for many Member States and especially for Greece.
We have also begun with the new strategy for the single market. I think it’s a good time to talk about it, because if you see the numbers, there is a lot of room for growth in the single market. It is time for Europeans to take a new step in the single market. These are my responsibilities. Again, thank you very much for the reception.
