The announcement, according to US ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker, is part of President Donald Trump’s attempt to push for ending the war in Ukraine – citing his recent mediation for Gaza.
Speaking in Brussels, Whitaker expressed hope that a resolution of the war in Ukraine could follow the same course as the Middle East.
Witter also reiterated the crucial role that Europe plays in preserving Russia’s finances, in particular through the ongoing markets of Russian gas and oil.
Concerning the peace process, Whitaker said President Trump would continue to create conditions and put pressure on Russia to the negotiating table. However, if Putin remains reluctant to participate in substantial peace talks, Trump could step up pressure on Russia with tools such as sanctions, oil and gas restrictions and advanced weapons supplies to NATO allies and Ukraine.
“Tomorrow, the US will make an important announcement on the supply of weapons to Ukraine,” the US ambassador said. How many Tomahawk rockets can Ukraine take?
“The US can only carry 20 to 50 Tomahawk rockets to Ukraine and this is unlikely to change the course of war with Russia, the Financial Times said.
According to Stissy Petizon, director of the defense program at the Think Tank Center for a New American Security, Ukraine will gain limited potential by acquiring a lot of Tomahawk missiles. This will not be enough to make a deep attack on Russia. At the same time, former Pentagon official Mark Kantsian said the US has a total of 4,150 Tomahawk missiles.
However, the Financial Times reports that US forces are exhausting their stocks without replacing them. In 2022, the Pentagon bought only 200 rockets and already spent more than 120 points. The Ministry of Defense’s request for the budget of 2026 seeks funding for only 57 additional tomahawk – a quantity of inadequate to compensate for current consumption rates.
These rockets have a drastic range of 2,500 kilometers, based on what are publicly known, which means that the Russian capital would be in their range if the Ukrainian Armed Forces acquired them. However, Kiev is expected to obtain amended versions of the rocket, which would reduce its potential, according to the report.
