Within a few weeks it is expected to be implemented evaluation of medical services, via SMS, by the patients themselves when they get discharged from the hospital.
Since April, citizens hospitalized in public hospitals will gain the opportunity to evaluate the health services they receive from hospitals through a new digital application.
This is an initiative by the Ministry of Health, which is part of the broader framework of the NHS digital reform, with the aim of improving the quality of services provided.
During his visit to the Ministry of the Interior, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced the start of the process, which he said is part of the general context of evaluation of all public services, in which will participate 4 million citizenswho will receive a Analytical Assessment Questionnaire of public services.
“This will help us identify the points that need improvement and enhance accountability. The final judge of the state is the citizen, and for the first time we give him the tools to evaluate us as a whole and propose changes. “
At the same time, referring specifically to hospitals, he stressed that health is the priority of citizens.
“We want citizens to have a reason for the quality of the services they receive. We cannot talk about a modern state unless we have a modern and operating system. Public hospitals must be evaluated and improved. “
How will the Evaluation System operate via SMS
After leaving the hospital, each patient will receive a written message (SMS) to his mobile, which will contain a link that will refer him to a questionnaire. Through this, he will be able to capture his experience with his hospitalization, highlighting both the positive points and the problems he faced.
The data collected will be analyzed by the Ministry of Health to identify the key challenges and to implement interventions to improve the National Health System.
The procedure will be uniform for all public hospitals and will cover the whole course of the patient to the system: from his initial visit to the emergencyment to the moment he is discharged.
The Questionnaire includes 36 questionsdistributed in 7 basic areas:
- Access to the hospital
- Organization and Coordination of Care
- Quality of Services and Profession of Personnel
- Participation of the patient in decision making
- Cleanliness and hygiene conditions
- Update and support while leaving the hospital
- Total evaluation of care
Procedure and anonymity
In order to access the questionnaire, the patient should be authenticized through his codes at Taxisnet. However, the answers will remain anonymous to ensure freedom of expression without fear of consistency.
Upon completion of the questionnaire, participants will receive a message of thanksgiving, while the first analyzes of the answers are expected in June. Corrective actions will be launched in July, and by October, the possibility of expanding the application to emergency departments and pediatric hospitals will be examined.
This new initiative, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Fund, aims to create a continuous improvement of public health.
Each hospital will have access exclusively to its own evaluations, and at the end of the year the Ministry of Health will issue a comprehensive report on the NHS, presenting the interventions implemented on the basis of patient observations.
