Villerban – Olympic Analysis: The loneliness of Vezenkov – Fournier and the absolute gap in aggressive support

New defeat and second “bell”. With the exception of their exceptions Sasa Vezenkov and Evan Fournier, Olympiacos disappointed in France and lost 81-70 to Villerban for the 31st Euroleague match.

This was the second consecutive defeat of Olympiacos, after the Red Star at the SEF and while on Thursday (27/3, 21:15) he welcomes Monaco to the SEF for the 32nd match.

Olympiacos can justify quite a bit “wrong” in this match. At the same time, however, there is specific evidence that the team is called upon to do a “reconstruction” in order not to lose the first place in the normal Euroleague (since the qualification to the playoffs has been “locked”) but also to remind you of the “supernatural” of previous months, which made fun of every seat. This is also the crucial issue, in view of the demanding continuity in the event.

Absences and Fal who played alone at “5”

As it was known beforehand, Olympiacos went to France with many absences. Vildosa, Milutinov, Wokap, Larentzakis and Evans did not get on the plane. Thus, George Bardzokas had only Mustafa Fal but also Mouzes Wright for the first time in late November, when he had a serious health problem. The American stayed in the parquet for 5: 51΄΄, gathered 2 rebounds, cut 1 cut and got 1 foul, with zero attempts.

Thus, the … weight fell on the French center, who faced several problems against Villerban, stayed without a point (!) Losing all 4 shots he got from some point and then tired (he struggled 24:44 “). Shooter (along with Fournier, Dorsey, Vezenkov and Lee’s organizer).

Fournier and Vezenkov felt hopelessly alone

If the absences in a team are a big issue in managing a match, then scoring only two of your players is something that can hardly bring a good result.

Fournier has the class to take a match on his own, like Vezenkov, but George Bardzokas knows that he is not a safe way for a team to come to a victory.

Evan Fournier was suffering as he did not go to Villerban’s defense. The Frenchman was in a demonic state – after three average games in the competition – closing the first 20 minutes with 17 points! In total he scored 20 points with 3 assists and 4/11 three -pointers.

On the other hand, Sasa Vezenkov overcame the average start he had and completed the match with double double, with 25 points (5/6 two -pointers, 3/6 three -pointers, 6/6 shots) and 10 rebounds.

Apart from the two “killers” of Olympiacos, who showed capable of getting the match on their own, chaos followed. George Bardzokas saw six other players enter the scorer table, but with a total of 20 points.

Nigel Williams-Gos and Seben Lee shared the time in the position of playmaker, creatively and defensively did not go unnoticed, but the first one scored 5 points and the second 4p.

Kostas Papanikolaou disappointed with 1/4 three -pointers (his only points in the match), Sakil McCisik was unable to make the factor … overturning us in this year’s Olympiacos games, staying at 2 points, while Dorsi had 4 points.

Somewhere here, let’s say that the third quarter was the worst productive for the reds. Olympiacos scored 13 points to accept 21 by counting 11 errors in 30 minutes.

Maledon’s terrible night – de Colo

Another factor, which did not give help to Piraeus was their defensive function. With the specific absences of the team and the “pale” night that most of them had, Olympiacos had no hope of limiting Villerban.

The French had a great night Theo Maledon. Even when Olympiacos spent ahead of the score, the Frenchman was there to give solutions. In total he offered his team 23 points (4/7 two -pointers, 2/5 three -pointers, 9/9 shots), 5 assists and 5 rebounds.

Unlike Olympiacos, Villerban had several solutions to the attack. But De Colo was the one who put – along with Maledon – his “signing” in the home team’s victory. The 38 -year -old gave significant solutions, scoring 18 points (2/6 two -pointers, 2/3 three -pointers, 8/8 shots). Indeed, it was he who achieved a three -point “knife” when the match came in his last minute. The rest … it’s a story.
