Everything was done in an area of the northern suburbs in Heraklion, near the Venizelio Hospital. Neighbors of the man heard his voices and threats of suicide and immediately alerted the authorities. Both police and rescuers from EKAB rushed to the spot to calm him down as he was in amok.
Although the authorities did the impossible possible to calm him down, the man eventually lifted the gun and took his life in front of a multitude of people.
