Five new incidents sheep and goats They were recorded in Magnesia, leading to the forced killing of animals in equal number of small livestock farms in the Municipality of Almyros. The appearance of cases triggered strict bio -security measures and intensive controls, with the aim of limiting the spread of zoonoso. As Anna Maria Dimitriou told ERT Volos, “the situation is dynamic and requires special attention from all those involved.”
Checks continue throughout the region, while breeders closely watch their flocks. Their concern is intense, both for the financial losses and the psychological burden of animal loss.
The measures applied
In the area they have already entered into force:
-Prohibition of sheep and goats within the protection and surveillance zones.
-Systematic disinfection of roads and animal concentration points.
-Dead animals based on health protocols.
-Creating three compulsory disinfection points for vehicles to limit the dispersion of the disease.
Mrs Dimitriou stressed the need to avoid uncontrolled grazing, which significantly increases the risk of spreading. ‘It is necessary for everyone to realize the severity of the situation and work together to limit the disease »he said.
Compensation issues and new measures
The breeders await the payment of financial aid, as damage to their livestock is important. According to the Vice -Mayor, the OPEKEPE damages, which have been delayed, will range from 4 to 14 euros per animal, covering losses and feed.
At the same time, the Ministry of Rural Development, in cooperation with the Regions, is considering additional measures:
-Geochora Lockdown to animal control.
-Enhanced border controls, since in neighboring countries such as Bulgaria and Turkey there are many cases recorded.
Mrs Dimitriou underlined how ‘the big bet is to keep alive Greek livestock farming. “
