The first bad weather Autumn is expected to “hit” by tonight (27.09.2025) and last for at least 24 hours, with very heavy rains and stormsmainly in the western part of the country, Epirus and the Ionian Islands.
Meteorologists have expressed their concerns about bad weather due to the severe storms expected, referring to the risk of flooding phenomena, as the barometric low will remain in place for a 24 -hour period, so the total volume of water will be large.
It is a barometric low in southern Ionian, which will deepen and give heavy rains and thunderstorms north and east of its center.
On Saturday, the NMS upgraded the emergency weather report on an emergency report of dangerous weather, as heavy rains and thunderstorms are expected in the Ionian and Western Greece.
The weather is wild, and the first storms are expected to occur late tonight until tomorrow night, Sunday in the following areas:
- In the Ionian Sea (Zakynthos, Kefalonia, Ithaca, Lefkada area)
- In Aitoloakarnania
- In the western Peloponnese (Achaia, Ilia, Messinia)
- In the southern regions of Epirus (Arta and Preveza Prefectures).

Message from 112 to Ionian and Western Greece
A message of special attention to severe weather and floods were sent to 10 residents through 112. Civil protection has been put into alert as the weather becomes autumn with heavy rains and thunderstorms expected to hit the Ionian islands as well as Western Greece.
Indeed this afternoon it was sent 112 by inviting residents to Ionian and Western Greece to be very careful in their movements: “Warning for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in your areas from Saturday nights until Sunday night. Beware of your movements. Follow the instructions of the authorities. “
The phenomena will be locally strong in:
- Kefalonia, Zakynthos, Ithaca and Lefkada,
- Western solids, south and
- West Peloponnese
Gradually from Sunday morning hours they will weaken and move eastly, affecting the central and northern continents locally.
On alert the state mechanism
According to Civil Protection, citizens can be informed daily of the evolution of emergency weather in regular NMS weather reports and on the EMY website at www.emy.gr, (www.oldportal.emy.gr)
At the same time, the General Secretariat for Civil Protection (CivilProtection.gov.gr) of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection has informed the competent officials involved in state agencies, as well as the regions and municipalities of the country, in order to be on increased political protection in order to deal with the political protection.
The General Secretariat for Civil Protection recommends that citizens be very careful, ensuring that self -protection measures from risks come from the manifestation of severe weather.
In particular, in areas where heavy rainfall, thunderstorms or stormy winds are foreseen:
- To insure objects that, if carried away by severe weather events, may cause disasters or injuries.
- To make sure the houses and gutters of the houses are not clogged and function properly.
- Avoid crossing streams and streams, pedestrian or vehicle during thunderstorms and rainfall, but also for several hours after the end of their event. Particular attention is needed at the road network, where the road intersects with torrents and there is no bridge.
- Avoid rural work and activities in maritime and coastal areas during the occurrence of severe weather (thunderbolt risk).
- Protected immediately during a hailstorm. To resort to a building or car and not leave the safe space unless they are confirmed that the storm passed. Quartzing can also be very dangerous for animals.
- Avoid passing under large trees, under posted signs and generally from areas where light objects (eg pots, broken glass, etc.) can detach and fall to the ground (eg below balconies).
- Follow the guidelines of the local authorities, such as Traffic Police, etc.
In areas that manifests intense lightning activity:
If you are at home
- Do not hold electrical appliances or the phone because the lightning can pass through the cables. Disconnect the TV devices from the antenna and supply of electricity.
- Avoid touching plumbing pipes (kitchen, bathroom) as they constitute good electricity conductors.
If you are in the car
- Immobilize it on the edge of the road and away from trees that may fall on it.
- Stay in and light the post -emergency warning lights until the storm is cut.
- Close the windows and do not rest on metal objects.
- Avoid flooded roads.
If you are outdoors
- Refuge in a building or car differently sit on the ground immediately without lying down.
- Protect under compact low -tree branches in case you are in the forest.
- Never resort under a tall tree in an open space.
- Avoid low -ground flood risk.
- Do not stand by pillars, power lines, telephone lines and fences.
- Do not approach metal objects (eg cars, bicycles, camp -to -c.).
- Remove from rivers, lakes or other masses of water.
- If you are in the sea, go out immediately.
- If you are isolated on a flat area and feel your hair lifting (which states that a lightning bolt will soon occur), make a deep seat with your head between your legs (to minimize the surface of your body and your contact with the ground) by throwing your metallic objects.

Weather forecast for tomorrow Sunday (28/09)
Heavy rains and thunderstorms are forecast until the night in the Ionian Sea (area of Zakynthos, Kefalonia, Ithaca, Lefkada), Aitoloakarnania, western Peloponnese (Achaia, Ilia, Messinia) and the southern regions of Epirus (Prefectures of Arta).
The winds to the west will blow east southeast 4 to 6 and in the Ionian Sea up to 7 beaufort local. In the east they will blow from northern directions 4 to 5 and locally in the Aegean until 6 beaufort.
The temperature will drop slightly. It will not exceed 23 to 24 degrees in most areas and only in Crete and the Dodecanese will reach 25 to 27 degrees Celsius.
MACEDONIA, THRAKI
Weather: Clouds, in places increased in Macedonia where local rains will occur from time to time.
Winds: East northeast 3 to 5 beaufort.
Temperature: from 13 to 24 degrees Celsius. In Western Macedonia 2 to 3 degrees lower.
Ionian Islands, Epirus, Western Solid, Western Peloponnese
Weather: rain and thunderstorms. The phenomena in the Ionian Sea (Zakynthos, Kefalonia, Ithaca, Lefkada), Aitoloakarnania, western Peloponnese (Achaia, Ilia, Messinia) and the southern regions of Epirus (Pasta and Preveza Prefectures) will be strong.
Winds: East southeast 4 to 6 and in the Ionian Sea until afternoon 7 beaufort.
Temperature: from 15 to 24 degrees Celsius.
THESSALIA, EASTERN Solid, EVIA, EASTERN PELOPONNESE
Weather: Clouds with local rains, which will intensify from noon to central Solidarity and western parts of Thessaly.
Winds: northeast 3 to 4, east temporary local 5 and in the morning up to 6 beaufort.
Temperature: from 15 to 24 degrees Celsius.
CRETE, CRETE
Weather: Sparse clouds that will gradually thicken in the western part of the Cyclades and Crete will occur in the western part of the Cyclades and Crete.

Clouds in places increased with sporadic rains and isolated thunderstorms in the west and south and gradually and in the rest of the country. The winds will blow to the west northwest 3 to 5 beaufort and east northeast with the same intensity.
The temperature will drop slightly. It will not exceed 21 to 23 points in most areas and only in Crete and the Dodecanese will reach 25 to 26 degrees Celsius.

Clouds in places increased mainly in the eastern continents and Crete where local rains will occur by night.
Visibility in the morning, mainly in the western seaside – seaside, will be limited in places.
The winds will blow from north directions 3 to 4 and locally in the southeastern Aegean 5 beaufort. The temperature will not note a significant change.
Prognosis for Wednesday (01/10)
A few clouds in places increased mainly on the eastern continents and Crete where local rains may occur.
The winds will blow from northern directions 3 to 5 and locally in the Aegean 6 beaufort. The temperature in a slight drop.
Prognosis for Thursday (02/10)
Clouds that quickly from the west will increase and local rains and sporadic thunderstorms initially in the Ionian Sea and gradually in the rest of the country. Crete and the Dodecanese are excluded in which the clouds will be transiently increased.
The winds to the west will blow southeast 4 to 6 beaufort and gradually turn to northwest 5 to 7 beaufort. In the east the winds will initially blow north -northeast 4 to 5 and in the northern Aegean northeast 6 beaufort with gradual reinforcement in southern southeast 5 to 6 and northern Aegean in east northeast 6 to 7 beaufort.
The temperature will be slightly further in the north.
