The first bad weather Autumn is expected to “hit” by tonight (27.09.2025) and last for at least 24 hours, with very heavy rains and stormsmainly in the western part of the country, Epirus and the Ionian Islands.

Meteorologists have expressed their concerns about bad weather due to the severe storms expected, referring to the risk of flooding phenomena, as the barometric low will remain in place for a 24 -hour period, so the total volume of water will be large.

It is a barometric low in southern Ionian, which will deepen and give heavy rains and thunderstorms north and east of its center.

On Saturday, the NMS upgraded the emergency weather report on an emergency report of dangerous weather, as heavy rains and thunderstorms are expected in the Ionian and Western Greece.

The weather is wild, and the first storms are expected to occur late tonight until tomorrow night, Sunday in the following areas:

  • In the Ionian Sea (Zakynthos, Kefalonia, Ithaca, Lefkada area)
  • In Aitoloakarnania
  • In the western Peloponnese (Achaia, Ilia, Messinia)
  • In the southern regions of Epirus (Arta and Preveza Prefectures).

Message from 112 to Ionian and Western Greece

A message of special attention to severe weather and floods were sent to 10 residents through 112. Civil protection has been put into alert as the weather becomes autumn with heavy rains and thunderstorms expected to hit the Ionian islands as well as Western Greece.

Indeed this afternoon it was sent 112 by inviting residents to Ionian and Western Greece to be very careful in their movements: “Warning for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in your areas from Saturday nights until Sunday night. The phenomena will be locally strong in:

  • Kefalonia, Zakynthos, Ithaca and Lefkada,
  • Western solids, south and
  • West Peloponnese

Gradually from Sunday morning hours they will weaken and move eastly, affecting the central and northern continents locally.

If you are at home

  • Do not hold electrical appliances or the phone because the lightning can pass through the cables. Disconnect the TV devices from the antenna and supply of electricity.
  • Avoid touching plumbing pipes (kitchen, bathroom) as they constitute good electricity conductors.

If you are in the car

  • Immobilize it on the edge of the road and away from trees that may fall on it.
  • Stay in and light the post -emergency warning lights until the storm is cut.
  • Close the windows and do not rest on metal objects.
  • Avoid flooded roads.

If you are outdoors

Heavy rains and thunderstorms are forecast until the night in the Ionian Sea (area of ​​Zakynthos, Kefalonia, Ithaca, Lefkada), Aitoloakarnania, western Peloponnese (Achaia, Ilia, Messinia) and the southern regions of Epirus (Prefectures of Arta).

The winds to the west will blow east southeast 4 to 6 and in the Ionian Sea up to 7 beaufort local. In the east they will blow from northern directions 4 to 5 and locally in the Aegean until 6 beaufort.
