Mitsotakis from UN for Gaza: No excuse for continuing war – see live

Speech at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly is currently addressing Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, thus completing his presence in New York.

“This year has a special weight, as we are celebrating 80 years of the United Nations this year. We are a nation that was at the beginning of the organization. My country came destroyed by war. The United Nations gave the hopes of people who had no freedom, “said Kyriakos Mitsotakis, starting his speech at the UN.

“A new world order is rising. Multipurpose is under pressure. We see a new reality in international relations. Climate change, migration, artificial intelligence. The world is changing. Greece is a pillar of stability. We seek dialogue and peaceful coexistence with our neighbors. We are not naive, of course, we know the threats and dangers of the volatility of our neighborhood. Greece is already spending more than 3% of its GDP in defense, “he said.

“In the EU we are determined to play a more decisive role in our defense. Greece strongly believes that it is time for a common defense planning. Jean Monet said that Europe was created through crisis. So decisions were made. And he was right. We have to do the same, ”he continued.

“We witness many diamonds with thousands of dead. If we fail to act, the prospects are even more gloomy, ”Mr Mitsotakis said.

Referring to the Middle East, he noted: “From the first day we are in favor of Israel’s right to defend it. We talked about release of hostages and a ceasefire. But nothing justifies the deaths of thousands of children and the humanitarian pain of the Palestinians. ” He stressed that our country remains steadily oriented to the solution of the two states.
