The aircraft carrying the Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu To New York to attend the UN General Assembly bypassing its airspace France and other countries of central and northern Europe.
However, as it became known, France had approved the Israeli request to use Benjamin Netanyahu’s aircraft in French airspace, but the Israeli president chose a further southern route for New York.
According to the French agency, the plane flew over Greece and Italy before turning sharply south via the Gibraltar and then to the Atlantic Ocean.
He also adds that Israeli media have said that this bypass was intended to avoid countries signed by the Rome Statute, which could potentially execute the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICT) in the event of an extraordinary landing.
In November 2024, the ICT issued arrest warrants against Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yav Galad for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip.
Last week, Spain announced that it would support the ICC’s investigation and that it has set up a team to consider alleged human rights violations in the Gaza Strip as part of an increased pressure that Israel is receiving to end the war there.
Netanyahu’s speech at the UN General Assembly is scheduled for tomorrow Friday, September 26th. He is also expected to meet with US President Donald Trump at the White House early next week.
