A very powerful earthquake re -shocked Kamchatka on Friday morning (19.09.2025), forcing its authorities Russia to issue a tsunami warnings.
Despite the waves on the coast, Governor Vladimir Solondov confirmed that no earthquake was recorded and that emergency services remained in the state of high readiness in the Far East of Russia.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake was 7.8 magnitude and a focal depth of 10 kilometers. Several aftershocks followed, reaching up to 5.8 Richter. The Russian Emergency Ministry, however, estimated the size of 7.2 Richter.

Waves of 30 to 62 cm were recorded along the coastline. A tsunami warning was also issued for parts of the archipelago Kouriles, north of Japan, as well as for Alaska, where it eventually came.

A video posted on social media shows lamps and kitchen furniture swamp during vibration, while residents were gathering on the streets. “This breakfast is testing the resistance of Kamchatka residents again,” Governor Solondov wrote on Telegram, referring to rapid inspections of public and residential buildings.
High seismic region, Kamchatka has already experienced at least two earthquakes over 7 Richter in the last week.
