Voloudaki: Immediate congestion of Crete with movements already inland

He spoke about the situation in Crete, as well as the actions of the Government on the substantive congestion of the island ERTNews The Deputy Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Sevi Voloudaki.

Ms Voloudakis stressed that the immediate priority is the movement of new inland structures. On Monday, about 200 people a day are already moving, with 136 from Chania, 166 from Heraklion and 116 from Rethymnon, while planning continues to leave another 350 people in total from Crete to the weekend. “Crete’s congestion begins with specific movements already taking place”, noted characteristics.

He added that, at national level, migratory flows have fallen by 30% compared to last year, while in the eastern Aegean islands the decline is about 40%, which proves the effectiveness of government strategy.

Referring to his work Coast Guardstressed that “His men and wives are at the forefront daily, facing war conditions in the Aegean, to protect the sea borders and save human lives.”

The Deputy Minister also noted that “When there are geopolitical developments and open energy issues, such as the Chevron case and the illegal Turkolibyan memorandum, the traffickers are rushing to exploit them, intensifying the pressures.”

Finally, the Deputy Minister underlined that “Immigration is a dynamic phenomenon and so in the ministry we are reprogramming and revising our strategy according to the real data to provide realistic and applicable solutions.”
