The PASOK-KINAL president expressed his party’s categorical opposition to any Turkey’s involvement in European defense architecture. As he said, the European Union cannot tolerate Turkish revisionism, nor accept as an equal partner in its defense a country that owns illegal territory of Member State, Cyprus, and threatens to another, Greece.
He then criticized the New Democracy government, questioning the “courageous foreign policy” he advertises. He mentioned a series of examples that, in his view, demonstrate the government’s indecision, such as the delay in maritime spatial planning and the implementation of marine parks away from areas that are “annoying Ankara”. He characteristically reversed the doctrine of Turkey’s “blue homeland” with the policy of the “calm waters” of the Greek government.
In closing, he presented PASOK’s vision for a “Greece again”, which would draw strength from historical successes, such as Cyprus’s accession to the EU. He described a strong, extrovert and protagonist, who would defend international law without asterisks. “We did it in the past, we can do it again,” he concluded.
