Heavy reactions to the release of Michaloliakou – “Scandalous Decision, Challenge for Democracy”

Heavy reactions were prompted by the release of Nikos Michaloliakos, leader of the Golden Dawn criminal organization, just days before twelve years after the assassination of Paul Fyssa.

Fyssa family lawyers refer to a “scandalous decision” that offends collective memory and sends a message of favorable right -wing and Nazism. As they point out:

“The message sent is clear: favorable to the crimes of the far -right and Nazism, which facilitates the continuation of criminal acts. At the same time, the collective memory of democratic society is brutally affected. “

At the same time, they point out that the invocation of humanity for prisoners with serious health problems would make sense “if it was applied to everyone and not only to those who have enjoyed privileged treatment for years”.

For their part, lawyers for supporting the Egyptian fisheries category refer to the “particularly privileged treatment” of the convicted criminal organization, as opposed to the tightened framework for other prisoners.

In their statement they say:

“The release of N. Michaloliakos and all his particular years of treatment, as opposed to a climate of tightening and criminalism that dominates, is a challenge for the anti -fascist movement and society, a few days before the completion of twelve years after the murder.”

They themselves recall that in the past had been released again with the same reasoning, but it had been overthrown, while stressing that “the battle against fascist violence continues in and out of the courts”.

The decision to release Michaloliakos, who will serve the remainder of his home penalty, citing health problems, is at a critical point in the second instance, while pending prosecutors for the imposition of heavier penalties.
