The Municipality of Athens also participated in the symbolic action “Time of the Earth”, off the municipality of the Lights at the City Hall in Kotzia Square, the Town Hall of Liosia Street, the Town Hall of Patissia Street, Technopolis, the Municipal Market of Kypseli, the Museum
“Earth time and we close today, at 20:30 the lights in municipal buildings, and we also contribute to the effort to reduce pollutants, to make our planet more green and address climate change issues,” said Athens Mayor Haris Doukas, shortly before.
Many young people, and not only, had gathered on Philopappou hill and Lycabettus to watch the blackout.
The Earth Hour is a worldwide initiative, launched by the World Nature Protection Organization (WWF) in 2007, with the aim of raising people’s awareness of environmental and climate change issues.
