The Deputy Minister of National Economy & Finance, George Kotsiras He pointed out that the fight against smuggling is a strategic priority for the government, noting, inter alia, that: “The issue of tax evasion is at the center of government policy and is being done with very specific goals. The tax regime must be as stable and predictable as possible and leave a positive footprint for businesses and citizens. The new Customs Code, first revised in 30 years, enhances digitization, interconnection of control mechanisms and offers powerful tools to effectively combat tax evasion. “
The Governor of AADE, George Pitsilis, He referred to the importance of public and private cooperation, noting that market know -how is crucial to the success of this effort. Referring to the seriousness of the problem, he noted: “Illegal trade in tobacco products not only causes loss of revenue, but is also a multiple harm to public health. Citizens who buy these products are exposed to unpredictable risks, while funding criminal networks that act around the world. The findings from the analyzes carried out by the State General Chemistry are shocking: mice, nails and mold are found in illegal cigarettes. “
Papastratos Vice President, Jacob Kargarotospresented the data that records significant progress in the battle against smuggling, attributing the reduction of the phenomenon to a combination of factors: “The decrease in the percentage of illegal cigarettes from 24% to 17% is an extremely encouraging result, which proves what we can do when there is a plan. The challenge, however, does not stop there. We need to maintain this momentum and invest even more in innovation and prevention, so as not to see the phenomenon re -intensify, as has happened in previous years. The battle against illegal trade and the protection of the most vulnerable is not a struggle that can be won by a single body, we need to join forces to ensure a safe and sustainable future for the country. “
