Alexander Sekulic was furious with the arbitration of his quarter -finals Eurobasket between Slovenia and Germany.
The Slovenian coach made it clear that the referees had not respected his team, proudly expressed Doncic’s company and said the Slovenians were leaving their head high from the event.
What he said at the press conference
“Congratulations to Germany for qualifying for the semifinals. I could talk about what happened in the parquet from the first minute. Very strange things happened. I feel bad for the players. But I don’t want to talk about it, because I will downgrade what the players did in the parquet not only in this match but throughout the competition.
I know we have a great superstar, Luke, but what the players around him do is not easy. It’s very difficult. Not having respect hurts. It hurts because I see the players suffering. It’s in the locker room. I think we played great tonight, I think we were better. We have to apologize that we are such a “dirty team” that we made so much fouls in the fourth period. Especially in the German team. We lost. I am proud of children.
If I could, I would bring them here for standing ovation. What they did this summer is … the best team in the competition is Germany and we were better in the whole match. It’s great. We are not successful but we can leave with our head high.
For fouls to Luca Doncic: “I can’t comment on that. The rules are strict. “
For the course of the team and the pessimism that existed in Slovenia at the beginning of the event: “What can I say? The negativity in Slovenia started with 1-2 people. From the first day I believed in the group and they believed in themselves. We believed in what we did. We showed it in the event. Unfortunately we didn’t do it tonight.
Half the team is playing for the first time. We have Lucas, who makes the team more important, better. It is difficult for me to summarize them all in a small paragraph for this group. I am so proud of what they did, how they fought in the parquet. There was a criticism of the players, to me. In the end we showed our value to the parquet. “
