Strong earthquake to Euboea Shortly after 12 on the night of Monday, September 8, it shook the area and became particularly noticeable in Athens and throughout Attica.
According to the Geodynamic Institute, the earthquake focused 5 km northwest of Nea Styra in Evia, with a focal depth of 13.6 km and was particularly noticeable in Athens.
Specifically, there was an earthquake in the maritime area between Schinia and Styria Evia.
The earthquake was strong and duration and was felt throughout Euboea, Attica, Boeotia, and there are references from other parts of the country.
Then there was a 2.5 -Richter aftershock according to preliminary estimates.
Efthymios Lekkas, a professor of geology and president of OASP, speaking to ERTNews, said that “this is an area that does not give great earthquakes.”
At the same time, he stressed that “there will probably be aftershocks overnight over 4 Richter”.
He added that “we are currently in evaluation of all data”.
No damage or injuries have been reported so far, but authorities are closely monitoring the evolution of the phenomenon.
In particular, Vice -Mayor of Euboea, George Kelaiditis, said he had talked to the President of the Young Styrias and that there are no reports of damage so far.
“We have dispersed vehicles in East Attica and South Euboea, as well as the first and seventh EMAK. And the ESCED is communicating with all our services and the Hellenic and Self -Government Services, ”said Civil Protection Minister Yiannis Kefalogiannis.
Marathon Mayor Stergios Tsirkas commented on ERTnews that “the earthquake was very intense”, while noting that “no reports of damage have been made so far”
