The 19 islands in the North Aegean and the Dodecanese where VAT is reduced by 30% – the list

As of January 1, 2026 the VAT by 30% in islands of the North Aegean Region, the Prefecture of Evros (Samothraki) and the Prefecture of Dodecanese with a population of up to 20,000 inhabitants.

As the Ministry of Finance Kyriakos Pierrakakis explained today from a press conference for the specialization of TIF measures, a total of 19 islands in the Dodecanese, North and Eastern Aegean decreases VAT and “practically the 24% VAT becomes 17% and 13% becomes 9%”.

Today the reduced VAT is applied to five Aegean islands (Chios, Leros, Samos, Lesvos, Kos) which maintain reception areas for refugee flows.

To strengthen the residential and business activity in the Aegean islands, which have a relatively small number of residents, the measure is expanded to the islands of the North Aegean Region, the Prefecture of Evros (Samothraki) and the Prefecture of Dodecanese with a population according to the census of 2021 to 20,000. The annual cost of the measure is estimated at € 25 million.
