The Greek community has sank into the grief in Sydney After the death of Mercouri Psillakis, the surfers who lost his life after attacking shark.
Surffer Merkouris Psylakis fought a great battle between the beaches of Dee Why and Long Reef to Sydney to escape the shark, but failed.
According to Sky News Australia, the 57 -year -old Greek had gone for surfing with his friends, when a large shark attacked him.

The surfers who were with him took him seriously injured in the water, but attempts to restore him proved to be fruitless. Testimonies say that his shark had amputated his legs so he had lost a lot of blood.
‘It was huge shark’
Speaking to Sky News Australia, an eyewitness stressed that the attack took place in front of his eyes and that the shark was one of the greatest he had ever seen.
‘There was a man in the water shouting “I don’t want to bite me, I don’t want to bite me, don’t bite me” And I saw the shark fin out of the water and it was huge.
Then I saw the shark’s tail coming out of the water and beaten. The distance from the flap to the tail seemed to be about four meters, so actually looked like a six -meter shark“, Said Mr Morgenthal.
Inspector John Duncan spoke of a huge tragedy. “It’s something horrible, horrible. It is one of those terrible incidents that happen very rarely … With tomorrow’s day being the feast of the father, the tragedy is even more painful, ”he said.
According to inspector Duncan, the 57 -year -old Greek “lost many members of his body”. Two parts of the surfing board have been recovered and have been examined.
Married to a minor daughter
Mercury Psylakis was married and leaves behind him His wife Maria, his minor daughter, but his twin brother, Mike, who is active in the field of surf.
Greek -born family lived in the suburb Dee Why and Everyone is overwhelmed by the tragedy.
“Everyone knows the Psylakis family, it’s really a big part of the community,” a local Telegraph resident said.
Local authorities have closed the beach for the public and investigations have begun to find the species of shark that attacked the 57 -year -old.
