Three conditions for sustainable development of the national economy and further improvement of citizens’ life was described by the Vice President of the Government Kostis Hatzidakisspeaking today (5.9.2025) at the Economic Conference “Greece 2030: Sustainable Development in the Crisis Age” in Thessaloniki.
“It takes,” said Kostis Hatzidakis, “growth is sustainable and durable, especially in an international environment of uncertainty and successive crises. Whatever translated into a real improvement in the well -being and life of citizens. The debate on how to support the middle class is directly linked to the debate on how the numbers will be reflected in a real social dividend for citizens. “
This is achieved – continued – through three basic conditions, which are:
1. Creating many and well -paid jobs
“Already,” Mr. Hatzidakis stressed, “significant progress has been made, as evidence of employment and unemployment show. As well as the fact that has increased significantly the average salary in the economy. Maintaining and expanding this trend is linked to increasing productivity and competitiveness of the economy. That is why I have repeatedly emphasized that once we have put in order of fiscal sizes, we will put even more emphasis on the “micro-economic” dimension: improving the business environment, promoting investment, infrastructure, developing the country’s human resources skills. This is a key pursuit of the Governmental Economic Policy Council that was reunited last April. “
2. Fair and Development Friendly, Tax Policy
“Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will announce tomorrow (6.9.2025) from the TIF of direct tax cuts, which will pass immediately in the Greek pockets. And especially the middle class and the families, “the deputy prime minister noted.
“These interventions are possible thanks to the effective economic policy we have pursued. Which has allowed us to have more revenue with lower tax rates. Because the economy is growing rapidly. But also because we have managed to significantly reduce tax evasion. From there comes the social dividend that Kyriakos Mitsotakis will present tomorrow. And this is extremely important. Because we support the middle class with our own strengths, in a healthy way and not on borrowing – as it was in the past. And therefore in this way we move safely without undermining the future of future generations. “
3. Improving the daily lives of citizens
“Although we have made great progress in the digital modernization of the State, unprecedented compared to the past decades, the deep state is still here,” the Deputy Prime Minister said. He noted that legislative interventions would be introduced at regular intervals to deal with “daily madness stories” with the State. For example, the initiative that is on the door of how to organize urban planning.
“At the same time,” he added, “we are expanding the evaluation of civil servants, introduce the digital work card to the State and set a goal in the context of the constitutional review the removal of permanence.” He also referred to the extension of the subway in both Athens and Thessaloniki, the renewal of the fleet of urban buses, the modernization of hospitals and health centers across the country with resources of the recovery fund and the renovation of 2,500 schools by 2027 through the “Marithea” program.
“Our country,” Mr Hatzidakis concluded, “has been suffering very much in recent years and has to take the lessons in cash, especially of the past decade, making the progress made in recent years and building on it. For our part, we do not represent the infallible. We are in constant contact with society. But we are never going to hear the sirens of populism. The New Democracy is the only force that the Greek citizen can touch in the coming years. Our country has suffered a lot in recent years and has to take cash in the past decade, building on the progress that has been achieved in recent years. And not by tearing down with frivolity what we did together, with efforts and sacrifices. “
