The decision of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs USA to reject the issuance of a visa by members of the Palestinian Liberation Organization and the Palestinian Authority based on the West Bank has caused several reactions, with the Recep Tayyip Erdogan to take a position.
In particular, Recep Tayyip Erdogan asked the US to “review” their decision not to grant visa to the Palestinian delegation scheduled to take part in the UN General Assembly in September.
“This decision is not in line with the purpose of the United Nations and should be reviewed as soon as possible“, The Turkish president said to reporters on his return from China.
“The mission of the UN General Assembly is to discuss global problems and propose solutions. The non -presence of the Palestinian delegation only makes Israel happy, “he said.
Erdogan then added: “I wanted to discuss this issue with UN Secretary -General Antonio Guterres (…) I would like to know his opinion on the subject.” For his part, Guterres has not yet been publicly placed on the issue.
The State Department announced that ‘Recalls and refuses’ to grant travel visions’ for members of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (OAS) and the Palestinian Authority“(PA) in view of the UN General Assembly, which begins next week in New York.
It is recalled that at this annual meeting, Washington allies are preparing to recognize a Palestinian state. The Palestinian Authority, the European Union, is among many who have called on Washington to review this decision.
The State Department’s announcement states, among other things:
“The Trump government confirms its commitment not to reward terrorism and recall the visas of Palestinian officials ahead of the UN General Assembly.
The Trump government was clear: it is in our national interest to consider the organization for the liberation of Palestine (PLO) and the Palestinian Authority accountable for non -compliance with their commitments and to undermine the prospects for peace.
Before the PLO and the Palestinian Authority can be regarded as partners for peace, they must consistently renounce terrorism including the slaughter of 7 October and end the motivation of terrorism in education, as required by US legislation and as promised.
“The Palestinian Authority must also end its efforts to bypass the negotiations through international legal campaigns, including appeals to the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice in The Hague, and efforts to ensure unilateral recognition of a possible Palestinian state.”
