Fourlaris (RAAE): Reduction of electricity in retail will be at 20% height

Decrease in the values of power 20% announced by the Vice President of the Energy and Water Regulatory Authority (RAAE), Dimitris Fourlaris, today (1.9.2025) invited to ERT’s first program.

“One feeling I have is that it will be at 20% (the reduction in the retail price of electricity). This is just a sense and we are really waiting today to see it, ”said the Vice President of RAAE, referring to electricity invoices that is expected to be announced within the day by energy providers.

“The data is as follows. I will get you the wholesale price of energy how it was shaped. In May it was about 83 euros a megawatt hour, in June it was 85.5 euros a megawatt hour, in July it was 100.5 euros per kilowatt hour and in August it fell to 78 (…) We will see this impact on the invoices they will give today. (…) What the Prime Minister and the Minister said about the floating invoices alone. Not the constant. The floating invoices, the billing price comes out with a fluctuation mechanism. The fluctuation mechanism therefore has the values of wholesale. (…) The fluctuation mechanism will be executed by default and the final billing price they give will follow this variation. Consequently, both the prime minister and the minister said right, the prices must be dumped, “Mr Fourlaris said.

“There is about 22%there. I have the feeling that it will be somewhere there, ”he said, commenting that the wholesale price from July to August has fallen to this percentage.

The Authority applies the European Directive, which provides for common rules for the internal electricity market, explained Mr Fourlaris. In this context, he continued, the supply products were categorized, based solely on the risk of exposure of the consumer to fluctuations in wholesale energy market prices.

In this way, two categories were created, one the fixed type that has been blue so far and the other was the fluctuating category that included green and yellow. One category has no wholesale fluctuations. The other has wholesale fluctuations and declining.

‘Why did we do the red invoices. Until now there was the blue invoice, which the Authority has made a conservative approach to the interpretation of the Directive, as I said, where we said we would have a price throughout the contract, which at least twelve a month, and this price, whatever you need to do, you pay. But because other products have emerged, namely red invoices, they are the following. EThey are predetermined supply charges, but which are differently different and in advance known to the consumer and have no influence from the wholesale energy market.

To say, how it differs. We said blue, a price for any consumption, you do, small, big, whatever it is.

The red comes and as the directive provides can be in any fixed type of invoice, so the reds call them hybrid blue, so to say it. It has a flexible element. This flexible element, to bring the example is consumption. And I say, it’s an invoice that has an A value for the first 300 kW for the next 400 kilowatt B, for the next 600 c.

That is, you do 1,000 kilowatt consumption, let’s say, in the first 200 he tells you you will pay for it at this price, the second 400 with another price. (…) Ascending the consumption the price goes up. (…) The program is annual, everything is at least annual, “Mr Fourlaris said about the colored invoices.

As to how one can choose an invoice color, Mr. Fourlaris explained that one must have a history of consumption.

«The clock, for the consumerI now think it, as one should look at his calls on the cellphone. He has to go down, see his watch because you often come from the provider and you see a consumption. You know this consumption if you have done it or is considering that the count did not come. (…)

I do not think that an active consumer must see his consumption every month to control the account that comes to him, ”he said.

‘The green invoiceI emphasize it, it has the ability to set different values for the fixed every month, either to reduce or increase them, and to the second addition, the basic commission price, to give greater or less discounts. So the green, I say so kindly, has the ability to divergent with these first two additives, regardless of wholesale. (…)

The best is the profile of each of us. There are people who say I am bored to look at where the wholesale will go, I will get a steady price that suits me, blue and I think I can pay for it.

Providers generally sting the floating to lead their consumers to the firm. And why do they do that? Let us not only see it sly, to see it from its positive side. Because, in this way they have a specific volume of consumption which they bind for 12 months, because otherwise it has premature retirement clause that will be proportional and predictable, they have a specific volume of consumption, they know it, they can give better prices, and they have been scared if they are turning something to the wholesalers.
