The European Union (EU) postpone the proposed duties 50% in American whiskey by mid -April, linking them to reaction against US steel and aluminum duties.
The displacement of the duty timetable, initially set to enter into force on April 1, allows more talks with US officials, EU spokesman said Thursday (20.3.2025).
US distillers have rushed to prepare for EU duties, including some companies carrying as much product as possible to Europe, one of the largest export markets in the industry.
In response, US President Donald Trump threatened 200% of all alcoholic products imported by the EU. “The EU is still ready to participate in a constructive dialogue with the US, in order to seek a solution that will avoid unnecessary damage.”
