The Fanuropita Custom, Reading to Church and Greetings to Agios Fanourios

Today August 27th Orthodox Church commemorates the memory of Agios Fanourios, and with this celebration is associated with the Fanuropita.

Fanuropita is a fasting pie, always made with a single number of materials – usually seven or nine. These numbers have a special symbolism: Seven refers to Sacrament And in the days of creation, while the nine expresses the angelic battalions.

The faithful bring the lantern pie to the temple, where the priest reads special wishes on her, an act called “reading”. Then the pieces share in the church as a blessing.

The custom is associated with the delivery that the Saint Fanourios It has the grace to “reveal” lost objects or to lead man to favor and happiness, an element that also explains the establishment of the lantern pie as an offer in his honor.
