As you may know with the PIS President I have a bad personal relationship, I will not analyze the reasons because it doesn’t matter. But what matters is about the real facts to speak precisely because otherwise how do we talk?
Today, the PIS has made a statement to support its overall criticism and opposition to our reforms (private doctors’ doctors, private doctors in the NHS, incentives for barren areas, etc.).
The announcement raises its argument on the finding of the PIS, that the retirements from the NHS are increasing over time, while the recruitment and thus the medical staff working in the NHS are constantly declining.
The arguments for value must be true though. I asked the service to confirm these numbers and…. They were completely wrong.

“1) The number of departures given by the PIS is not confirmed. Specifically, according to our service data, up to 20.8.2025, retirements including retirements and resignations either for personal reasons or for appointment to another position in the NHS or the University, up to 3125, while 132 of them are resigned to another position at the University. 2) The same applies to the number of recruitments given by the PIS. It is noted that the recruitment of the NHS doctors in the year 2025 are referring to a majority of the notices of October, November and December 2024 and present the following picture: from a total of 790 announcements for hospitals and the structures, (267) and ongoing appointments (53), while for 80 posts the crisis process and selection is evolved. 3) Finally, the total of the serving physicians, permanent and auxiliary, in May 2024 was 21748, while in June 2025 21861, that is, a numerical increase in 383 IATRON, compared to 71, if retirement and resignations are taken into account. ”
That is, dear, Mr Exadactic and other Board of Directors of the PIS, if your argument to prove the merits of your criticism was that “doctors who serve in the NHS are reduced”, then since their number is ultimately +312 then their growth is in reverse?

The announcement of the PIS
Earlier in his announcement, the PIS stressed that it was necessary to revise the country’s medical management.
Specifically he said:
“It is a common property that in Greece, although we have an overwhelming number of doctors (68,000 within the State and about 19,000 outside), they do not want to work for the NHS and avoid labor relations with the State. In 2024 the following settings were legislated to solve the problem:
1. The political recruitment of doctors doing private work to meet the needs of the NHS.
2. The abolition of the exclusive employment of the NHS doctors.
3. Incentives to serve a border area.
4. Extension of the working life of the NHS doctors to 70 years.
PIS pointed out from the outset:
-For the 1st that it will dismantle the medical world’s relations with the blackmailing state.
-For the 2nd that is not about most NHS physicians, 20% only use the privilege.
-For the 3rd that moving to the center after 3 years of barren service, instead of solving it, will cause problems.
Finally, for the stay of the NHS doctors until the age of 70, which is reasonable, if it is not disconnected by the Clinic Directorate and other administrative positions will result in resignations of younger doctors.
From the completion of the above measures in October 2024, the PIS records the recruitment of doctors to the NHS, retirements and resignations daily from DIAGNIA to evaluate the effectiveness of the four meters of policy.
