The UN is concerned about Thanos Plevris ‘statements about NGOs – Adonis Georgiadis’ reaction

The UN Special Rapporteur for Human Rights, Mary Lulor, expressed her strong concern about the Recent statements by Minister of Immigration, Thanos Plevris. These statements, which target and threaten Non -Governmental Organizations (NGOs) that support the right to asylum, have sparked Louler’s reaction.

In a post on the X platform, a UN official said she had received “alarming news” about comments from the Greek minister who appears to be aimed at controlling NGOs. Louler stressed that the ministry must support human rights defenders, rather than harassing them with restrictions and interventions.

Thanos Plevris Plevris has attacked many organizations that have criticized the government’s decision to cease asylum applications by citizens of North Africa, a move that leads to their immediate return. When some NGOs appealed to the court on behalf of Sudanese refugees, the minister warned that “anyone who does not respect the ruling will suffer the consequences”. In addition, he announced that he had requested control of his ministry’s NGO register, stating that it was “paradoxical” to have registered organizations opposed to government policy.

Thanos Plevris also noted that, although court rulings are respected, migration policy is not shaped by either courts or NGOs.

Adonis Georgiadis supports Plevris

The Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis, hastened to defend Thanos Plevris, expressing his “pride” of his statements.

In a statement, the Minister of Health described Thanos Plevris as his “brother” and stressed that the reaction of UN special rapporteur, Mary Loulor, is a great honor.

At the same time, Adonis Georgiadis attacked non -governmental organizations and international organizations that support them. He described the “illegal immigration” as a “criminal enterprise” and argued that European peoples want to stop. “Their pseudo -humanism does not concern us. Peoples also have rights, not just NGOs, “he said, adding that strict supervision should be applied immediately.
