OR Russia faces ‘huge threats’ that require constant improvement of the ‘shield’ of nuclear weapons her, as warned by the head of the State Atomic Energy Service.
Russia has the largest nuclear weapons arsenal in the world and has modernized it in recent years, adding ultrasonic missiles to it, which, according to Moscow, can penetrate the current Western Air Defense Systems.
“Now, in the current geopolitical juncture, it is a time of huge threats to the existence of our country,” said Alexei Lihchev, director of Rosatom, on Thursday (21.08.2025), according to the state -run RIA news agency.
“Therefore, the nuclear shield – which is the sword – is a guarantee of our sovereignty […] Today we understand that the nuclear shield should be improved in the coming years, “Lihchev said.
Nuclear tensions between Russia and the NATO defense alliance under the US leadership have intensified during Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.
The United States is developing a new space defense system, which President Donald Trump has called “golden dome”.
“Today we understand that the nuclear shield must definitely be improved in the coming years,” he added.
Rosatom’s state -owned public energy company (commonly known as Rosatom is a Russian state -owned Moscow -based state -owned company specializing in nuclear power, non -energy nuclear products and high -tech products.
Founded in 2007 and includes more than 350 companies, including scientific research organizations, a nuclear weapons complex and the only nuclear icebreaker fleet in the world.
The Agency is the largest electricity producer in Russia, produced by 217.4 TWH electricity, accounting for 20.28% of the country’s total electricity production.
