The limited generation of new roads and the course of large highways

Measured on the fingers seem to be the new ones now road works which can be built in the country, as despite the major needs of Attica due to traffic, finding the necessary resources seems to make the situation difficult to significantly.

However, in 2025 and early 2026 there will be two major road projects that are no more, from the last part of Patras – Pyrgos but also the E65, while in the next implementation phase the triple junction of Skaramanga and the two major roads in northern Greece will pass.

The new generation of projects, if very limited, is extremely important for the country’s infrastructure. In this context, the triple Skaramanga hub is expected in 2025 in 2025, according to the leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure. The timeline of the construction contract is 36 months at an estimated cost of € 65 million, funded by the RIP.

In the second phase of the competitive dialogue, however, two major PPP road projects have been entered in northern Greece, for which there will be a submission of binding financial bids by the end of 2025. These are the projects related to Thessaloniki Axes – –

Edessa and Drama – Amphipolis, whose budgets have been delimited to the Thessaloniki – Edessa axis to 444.91 million euros with VAT and the Drama – Amphipolis axis of € 248.54 million.

It is noted that in the competitive dialogue phase, GEK TERNA, Aktor concessions – Metlen, AKTOR and AVAX group were entered for both competitions.

Next, however, projects will be delivered that we have been waiting for years to be completed to upgrade the country’s infrastructure. Specifically, on November 30, the last 10 km of Patras – Tower for which Avax is a contractor will be delivered.

It is recalled that on August 1, the first 65 km of the big road project, with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, have been re -opening the issue of expanding to Tsakona, if the necessary funding is found. It is a highly difficult project, with a budget of 700 million to 1 billion euros, but the project is already ongoing, and announcements are expected next year.

At a much more advanced stage is the construction of Thessaloniki’s Flyover by the Metlen – AVAX consortium (PPP project), as well as the public road project Bralos – Amfissa (with a manufacturer also the AVAX Technical Company with an integration horizon at the end of 2027.

A large next road project in the completion phase is the northern part of the E65, which concerns the Kalambaka – Egnatia Department, whose progress has exceeded 75%. The project is constructed by GEK TERNA and is controlled by its subsidiary company main street, and is estimated to be ready in the first half of 2026. It is reminiscent that the northern part of the E65 is 70.5 kilometers that will connect Kalambaka with Grevena and Egnatia Odos.

The construction of the department from Kalambaka and north, although it does not have significant technical works (ie, mainly tunnels or bridges), however, is among large massifs, so many times work in the winter months is a major challenge.

An important bet, however, is the BOAK (North Road Crete), as it is the largest road infrastructure in the country so far. A few days ago, the Ministry of Infrastructure announced an extension for the Naples – Agios Nikolaos, 14 km long, which was auctioned as a public project with the AKTOR Group and is expected to be completed in mid -2026.

The reasons for the project extended are the delay in the performance of expropriated areas and displacement of OCO networks (DEDDIE and DEYA) and re -design basic planning studies due to the revision of environmental specifications.

The Hersonissos – Neapoli section, which is implemented by the PPP method, refers to a 22.4 km long project with a contracting consortium of GEK TERNA – AKTOR – Aktor concessions and is in the process of construction with completion in 2027. GEK TERNA. The contract provides for the simultaneous construction and operation of the road and thus the partial delivery of the road.
