A quantity of half a ton of drug Khat identified and seized auditors of the Independent Public Revenue Authority in airport Athens “Eleftherios Venizelos”, as announced today (17/8/25).
The KHAT drug found at the airport, the natural coca, as it is called, is a psychotropic addictive substance, derived from the Catha Edulis plant, grown in the Horn of Africa, the South Arabian Peninsula and along the East African Aast.
The illegal substance was hidden within four lading with goods declared as curtains, sheets and fabrics, transitted by Israel with a final destination in the US.
In a sampling check, carried out by the auditors of the Athens Customs Airport Customs Office, in the Airport’s Temporary Lost Warehouse, they identified the hidden parcels with the dried sheets of the KHAT and seized a total amount of half. It is estimated that the value of the confiscated quantity is EUR 1,500,000.

It is about greater quantity of finding this drug. The previous one was again at Athens Airport in 2014 and was 458 kg.
